Writing Updates

As you may or may not have noticed, I failed to post a blog last week, and I am a bit more than a day late this week. There is a very good reason for that.

But before we get to that, since it’s the beginning of a new month, and there’s been a lot going on in my little writing world, it feels like this is a good time to share an update!

Secret Horror Feature Film

While I still cannot share details of the screenplay I am under contract to write, I can tell you that the latest draft is complete and officially in the hands of my director/producer. They had approved the initial treatment with very few notes, so I am hopeful this draft will meet with their approval with few changes.

Unfortunately, film often works at a snail’s pace, and my director/producer works in film in other capacities in addition to their indie production company.

All that adds up to me not really having any idea when I will get feedback and can work on any requested changes.

That said, I know my director/producer is chomping at the bit to move forward with pre-production and shooting. They have expressed to me recently that they want to get shooting as soon as possible, perhaps even this year (which I find somewhat unlikely, but we can hope!) Hopefully, that means they will be able to find the time to read it and get back to me with feedback quickly.

Horror Web Series

Not a ton of progress has been made with this project lately, mostly because we are waiting to hear if it has been green-lit. We expect to learn one way or the other very soon, and there is little reason to think it won’t be a go.

And I have been given permission from my co-writer/director to share some basic details, like the title, what horror property we’re adapting and how, once we get that green light news.

I am excited to be able to share more details about this project. It was a surprise for me to be asked to join it, and as a massive fan of the source material, I am extremely excited to be a part of it.

Suffice it to say, it is a very old property that will likely have flown under the radar for many horror fans, but has a deep cult following for those who know it well. Aside from a mention or two in a recent show that wasn’t even trying to be an adaptation, there really hasn’t been any attempts at tackling this property, and that surprises me. Hopefully, that will help our efforts stand out that much more!

(As an interesting aside to this, as I was writing this entry just now, I received a text from my co-writer/director. Looks like we’re having a meeting tomorrow, after which things will get rolling again!)

Perseid Prophecies

The Autumn 2024 issue of Perseid Prophecies is now live and free! Download it as either a .pdf or .epub here.

I’m very excited about this issue, as it features four original short stories submitted to me through the Perseid Prophecies website! Although this is only my third issue, each quarter has brought more and more submitted stories for me to read, enjoy, and choose from.

If you have received a rejection from me, please know that it is not a reflection on your writing ability; it is simply due to the fact that I have limited space in each issue (especially if I want to continue to include at least one classic tale), and I receive many fantastic stories to choose from.

As a lifelong fan of short stories, it tickles me that I not only get to uplift other authors and their work, I get to be among a select few who to read all of this great fiction before it makes its way out to the public. It is an honor and a delight!

Gas Giant Gambit

Okay, finally, the reason I’m behind on my blogging is fairly simple.

I was supposed to have a meeting with my new publisher last Monday, and I was hoping to use last week’s blog to make the announcement of who the publisher is, and perhaps any other details regarding our release plan/window.

Unfortunately, that meeting got moved back a couple of times and my plan to use the blog to make the big announcement fell through last week at such a late time I didn’t see the point in hastily writing something just so there would be a blog.

That explains last week, but why am I late this week, you ask.

I have had the meeting, but not until late yesterday afternoon, and while it was very exciting, I cannot share any real details yet. The publisher will be making a deal announcement either Friday of this week or Monday of next, and I have been asked to wait to share details until that time.

So, hold your breath a little longer! The big reveal is coming soon, I promise!

(In fact, I will likely be delaying my October newsletter so I can use it to make this announcement. My once-a-month newsletter always goes out on the first Friday of the month, but it may not go out until the second Tuesday this month, so sign up and keep your eyes open for it!)
