I’m going to keep things a little short as sweet this week, mostly because there’s a lot going on around the house, and in my effort to keep up something’s gotta give!
Cosmo
First and foremost, the reason for the general hectic-ness of my life at the moment: we’re adopting a new dog into the family! We have two cats, a French bulldog, and no kids (a situation that, given our age, isn’t going to change), so we decided to start the process to bring another life to love into our home.
That said, it all happened so fast it’s left our heads spinning! I suggested the idea of adopting another dog to my wife only a couple of weeks ago, and we started the process assuming it would likely take at least a few months. Realistically, I was assuming we’d be paired with a dog in March at the the earliest, but more likely spring or summer. But our interview with the shelter went really well, and they started throwing dogs our way.
The pooch we initially applied for ended up being a foster fail (and how can you be upset about that? She’s with a family that will love her!). But within days of getting that news, they had already lined up another dog for us to see, and then yet another if the second didn’t quite fit with us.
But, we met the second dog over the weekend, and he just feels right. He’s a little timid and has been through a lot in his short life, but after only a few minutes of walking together he was used to our Frenchie, and was already giving us all the love bursting from his little body.
So, I’d like to introduce you to Cosmo, the newest addition to the Raye pack!

We pick him up on Sunday, and there is still a lot to do around the house to prepare for him. So, as the person that works from home and makes his own hours, I’ve been busy getting things ready.
Web Series
In other, more writing related news, I finished my first draft of the horror web series season finale and got it sent off to my co-writer/director last week. And this morning, I woke up to his feedback.
Overall, it was extremely positive (“Man, I LOVE IT! This is fantastic!”) with only a few changes requested. I’m not surprised he wanted some changes–my notes for this episode were not quite as extensive as I would have preferred, so I had to do my best to fill in some of the gaps myself. But even so, his requested changes are very small and are really only fine details.
This is very exciting, and I’m only sad we have to wait until September to start filming! But hopefully I’ll be able to let you all in on the secret of the project soon.
Other Writing Projects
My other writing projects are all in a sort of limbo for the time being. I’m waiting on feedback from my director about the horror feature screenplay. And I’m waiting on developmental edits and other procedural bits when it comes to Gas Giant Gambit.
The only other project that I’m actively working on is the next novel, my Great War sci-fi. And while some character and plot work has been done on that front, it’s still the early phases and with everything else going on (including the upcoming holidays), things are moving slowly. And if I’m being honest, given the time of year and the impending arrival of Cosmo, the novel is not my highest priority at the moment.
But, hopefully, come the new year and once Cosmo is a little more settled into his new home, I can attack the novel with the full force of my attention and imagination!
