(My MCM Retro-Futuristic PC)
Monday was a holiday, and I’m running late this week, so this one’s gonna be short, but with plenty of images!
As I have mentioned before, I have build a custom PC (nothing fancy, it’s really just a glorified word processor and internet browser–which is why its name is Edi(ting and) E(ntertainment)), and instead of putting it in a traditional case, I wanted to retrofit an old ’70s-’80s era record console I’ve had sitting around into something more mid-century modern and retro-futuristic.
Well, I’ve finally done the retrofit. It’s taken many weekends nesteled within bad weather and other commitments (like a weekend-long book festival), but EdiE is in her case, and I could not be happier.
So, without further ado, the process:

EdiE LIVES!
As you can see from those last few images, I’m still playing with the placement of some of the gauges and lights, but I hope to have that finalized and wired up soon. After which I will slap a veneer on EdiE’s face (to better hide some of the rougher cuts into the wood, as well as some dings and gouges).
The record player also needs a little more modification to fit permanently–namely, cutting off some bits of plastic that held it in its old case, but are just in the way now–and she’ll be done! And don’t worry, I did replace the speakers, I just forgot to get photos of it (not that it’s terribly exciting, I just put new bookshelf speakers behind the canvas).
There are some side things that I still want to do, like frame my monitors and replace my mouse and keyboard with more theme appropriate devices. I’ve also discovered a small, old TV I forgot I had that I want to turn into a dedicated system monitoring screen after I do this to it:

And lastly, I want to add lighting on the back and underside, another task I hope to complete this fall/winter.
All in all, while there are things I have learned along the way (I have literally zero woodworking skill or experience) and may have done differently, I am nevertheless overjoyed with how well it turned out! It looks exactly as I pictured it when I first had the idea years ago!
Stay tuned as I put on the finishing touches!
